Coach Marcus

Coach Marcus was born in Stamford and raised in Norwalk, CT. After playing on the varsity team for Brien McMahon High School during his 4 years there, Marcus was recruited by Bethany College to help rebuild their tennis program. While at Bethany College he was named captain and led the team to a 10-3 record, the best the school had seen in 43 years. Marcus then transferred to Albertus Magnus College and helped the team make the playoffs for the first time in 10 years. Coach Marcus has taught tennis for many programs:

Coach Luisa

Coach Luisa is not only an amazing coach but she the Executive Director of Six Love. Originally from Colombia, Luisa has lived in Norwalk almost all her life. After graduating from College of the Holy Cross, Luisa continues to have a passion for community, youth development and education especially in relation to tennis and accessibility to the sport. Luisa has made strides working with the Stamford Youth Tennis Academy and now serves as Co-Founder and Executive Director of Six Love. When she’s off the court Luisa can be found enjoying local restaurants, whipping up recipes herself, traveling, and enjoying her community.

After graduating from College of the Holy Cross and majoring in French Language & Literature and Concentration in Public Health Studies, Luisa continues to have a passion for community, youth development, and education especially in relation to tennis and accessibility to the sport. Luisa has made strides working with the Stamford Youth Tennis Academy and now serves as Co-Founder and Executive Director of Six Love. When she’s off the court Luisa can be found enjoying local restaurants, whipping up recipes herself, traveling, and enjoying her community. Amy Lafleur Amy graduated Magna Cum Laude from Babson College in May of 2018 and has received The Diversity Leadership Award, a four-year, full-tuition scholarship awarded to students with the greatest potential for leadership in creating a diverse community. She demonstrates leadership in bridging differences and in building inclusive communities across all identities. Amy now serves Treasurer for Six Love and has a passion for community, travel and the arts. Amy has been to over 12 countries and 24 states and can be found planning trips and with her camera.

*Black History Month Shout-Out* Coach Marcus would like to shout-out the first coach to give him lessons and a job Coach Marvin Tyler. Bio: Marvin is a PTR Certified Tennis Teaching Professional who earned his certification at the Professional Tennis Registry (PTR)/Dennis Van De Meer Tennis University in Hilton Head, SC. Marvin has been teaching tennis for over 18 years and has taught many kids that went on to play high school and college tennis. Some of the players he taught and mentored played in USTA/ATA tournaments and played the #1 spot on their high school tennis teams: Andrea Khattabi, Marcus Hooks, and Rebecca Link to name a few. Marvin and his company Slammer Tennis World have been in partnership with the New Canaan YMCA, Norwalk Recreation and Parks, and Stamford Recreation Services for over 14 years running their tennis programs/summer camps. Marvin is also the Director of Tennis for the City of Norwalk Recreation and Parks in Norwalk, CT where he is responsible for running after-school tennis programs, 10 and under tennis programs, 11 to 17 and adult tennis programs, tennis jamborees, summer tennis camps, and USTA Junior tournaments. Marvin is a certified USTA Tournament director and runs four USTA Junior tournaments every summer in Norwalk, CT. Born in Emporia, VA, Marvin received a proclamation from the Mayor of Emporia, VA, Mary L. Person in 2016 recognizing him as the first-ever certified tennis teaching professional from Emporia, VA/Greensville County. Marvin also received a plaque from the Emporia, VA town circuit clerk, Robert C. Wrenn in 2016 recognizing him for his service in the community. Marvin received the PTR Connecticut State Member of the Year award in February 2014 and was featured on the January/February 2017 cover of the PTR Tennis Pro Magazine. Marvin is a lifetime member of the American Tennis Association (ATA) and in 2007, he received the Men of Distinction award from the NAACP of Dutchess County, NY.
